Dr. Nikos Tsotsolas is a Production and Management Engineer and holds a Master of Science Degree in “Operational Research” from the Department of Production and Management Engineering of the Technical University of Crete. In 2009 he was awarded a doctorate by the University of Piraeus and since 2017 he is Assistant Professor at the University of West Attica.

He is a member of the Research Laboratory “Digital Transformation & Decision Support Systems – DigiT-DSS Lab” and co-founder of the “Institute of Port Administration and Development” under the umbrella of the University of West Attica Research Center. He teaches in 5 Postgraduate Programs and his research interests fall within the fields of Logistics, Operational Research, Decision Support Systems and Business Models. He has published more than 90 papers and studies in scientific journals, international conferences and edited volumes. He has participated in the implementation of 34 research projects.

Since 1995 he has been working as a freelance consultant in R&D projects. He has worked with a number of organizations and businesses in Greece, Denmark and Ireland. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Operational Research Society and co-founder of KalaΘos, an online platform for complete and documented tracing of fresh fruits and vegetables from farm to fork that uses IoT and blockchain technologies and implements global GS1 and UNECE standards.

Regarding his experience in Sustainable Business Models, he is participating as researcher in the project “Establishment of Leather Hubs in Russia and Mongolia (LEATHUB)”, which is implemented under the Erasmus+ Programme “Capacity-Building projects in the field of Higher Education”. Within this project he was involved in the development of a course entitled “Sustainable business models for Hubs”. Furthermore, he is currently participated in the following on-going R&D projects, which deal with circular economy and sustainable models:

  • “Trace & Trust Hubs for MED food” – Prima Programme (as Project Technical Manager)
  • “Development of smart traceability applications, decentralized supply chain networks, and sustainable technologies for health-safe and sustainable incorporation of food by-products into pig diets” – RESEARCH – CREATE – INNOVATE Programme
  • “Innovative technologies for climate change mitigation by Mediterranean agricultural sector” – Life+ Programme (as Researcher)
